Lagerstroemia indica 'Hopi'
St. Louis is close to the northern limit for growing Crape Myrtle but ‘Hopi’ is perfectly fine for our location. When situated in full sun, ‘Hopi’ wont dissapoint with its spectacular pink blooms from July into September. Cold winters may cause the plant to die back to the ground but it will regrow into a 4-6′ bushy shrub by seasons end. It should be cut back to just above ground level in late winter or early spring. Winters with temperatures that dip below -5°F will cause the plant tissue above ground to die. New growth will emerge in late spring. Hopi is loaded with blooms for over two months. The leaves have an attractive fall color and the seed heads persist through the winter providing a source of food for birds.
